A while ago I was conversing with some of my colleagues who manage a shop and I remembered noticing that the younger of their employees habitually scratched and twitched about with his thumbs. Earlier in this week the doorbell rang, I disconnected my headset and I went to answer it. Three strangers were standing there looking very distressed. “Hello can you help us please?” one of them said. Not being one to turn down this sort of request and thankful that it wasn’t some kind of salesman or survey collector, I asked what the problem was. “There’s this cat in the road that won’t get out of the way of the traffic – we picked it up and put it on the pavement but it isn’t doing very much – we think it’s been clipped by a car!” At this I followed them out of my driveway and across the street.
